Description

Displayed in a black frame measuring 11x14"

The Megasoma elephas, commonly known as the Elephant Beetle, differs from most other Rhino beetles because of its tremendous bulk and velvety texture. The typical black exoskeleton of the beetles in this family, is instead seen here covered with densely packed fine pile that gives it a caramel color in comparison. It is a relatively docile, nocturnal creature that feeds on overripe fruit and tree sap as an adult while the immense grubs feed on and pupate within rotting logs.
