Amanita muscaria Mushroom Jacket (MD)
About the Piece
Size MEDIUM, fitting sizes 5 & 6 approximately. With four outer pockets (two with button closures) and two inner breast pockets this jacket makes it is easy to store personal belongings during carefree nights out or keep them safe while traveling close to your chest.
Unique hand-stitched patches adorn this fitted stretch jean jacket. A vibrant orange and purple spider and chestnut with fall colored leaf adorn the front breast panels of this jacket with strawberries, a leaf and large brown beetle on the collar and shoulders. The right arm shows a yellow and green gourd on a flowering fine while the left displays a succulent peach. The back of the jacket contains intricate patches of late summer-inspired nature patches: blue longhorn beetle and green scarab beetle, grey butterfly and white carrot over a bundle of flowering and ripening berry branches with ripe Amanit muscaria mushrooms at the base.
Fun Fact: The pshychotropic properties of Amanita muscaria mushrooms, their famously bright red and white caps and location beneath conifer trees during winter solstice each year has lead some anthropologists to postulate that they played a large role in the formation of the Christmas traditions celebrated today. Tracing the act of putting presents under a cut fir tree, filling stockings by the fire and the color of clothing worn by Santa Claus as he flys across the sky with his reindeer back to shamans of the arctic who employed the mushrooms, also known as fly agaric, to induce hallucinations for ritual and religious purposes before written history even began.
