Laura Plansker creates photo-illustrations and puppet films that blend sculpture, set design, and photography here in Los Angeles. Her upcoming installation at Gold Bug will feature whimsical deli meat sculptures amongst other creations. Working in a variety of materials she handcrafts expressive characters and worlds that are playful yet slightly unsettling. 

Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Plansker earned her BFA from the College for Creative Studies and interned with John Reuter at the Polaroid 20×24 Studio. Her experience in set decorating and miniature construction for film and commercials influences her ongoing exploration of “photo-dioramas,” puppet films, and sculpture where handcrafted elements and photography combine to tell visual stories.
