Alice in Wonderland 1952 Antiquarian Cut Book
Alice in Wonderland 1952 Antiquarian Cut Book
About the Piece
One of a kind piece measuring 8.25" tall, 6.25" across and 1.5" deep.
This antique book has been altered to tell the story of Alice in Wonderland through color illustrations of characters like the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, smoking caterpillar and Alice herself throughout the adventure. The copy pages of the book have been methodically and cleanly cut away to reveal the images as they were printed, still attached to the binding, in their original positions. The book sculpture has a hanger attached to the back and a plexiglass pane that slides in behind the lime green book cover to protect the inside from dust and damage when on display in your environment. The fore edge of the text block has been coated with a hard lacquer so that the book remains closed. This piece is signed and dated by the artist.
About the Artist
"The use of antiquarian books makes the work at the same time an exploration and a deconstruction of nostalgia. We create our own past from fragments of reality in a process that combines the willful aspects of remembering and forgetting with the coincidental and unconscious."
