About the Piece
One of a kind piece measuring 10.75" tall, 6.75" across and 2.5" deep.
This antique encyclopedia has been altered to tell a story, one of elephants, colorful orchids, tigers, birds and people from around the world. The copy pages have been methodically and cleanly cut away to reveal the images as they were originally printed, still attached to the binding. The book sculpture has a hanger attached to the back and a plexiglass pane that slides in behind the book cover to protect the inside from dust and damage when being displayed. The fore edge of the text block has been coated with a hard lacquer so that the book remains closed. This piece is signed and dated by the artist.
About the Artist
Through his work in the tradition of collage, Alexander Korzer-Robinson pursues a very personal obsession of creating narrative scenarios in small format. By using antiquarian books, the work is simultaneously an exploration and a deconstruction of nostalgia.
